Holy Humidity.... Dog Tired

In meteorology, humidity indicates the likelihood of precipitation, dew, or fog. High relative humidity reduces the effectiveness of sweating in cooling the body by reducing the rate of evaporation of moisture from the skin. This effect is calculated in a heat index table, used during summer weather. (courtesy of Wikipedia)

High humidity reduces the ability for the body to cool down.... no wonder I feel as though I am wearing a wet towel after my run this morning. But nevertheless I got out there and ran... and so did the wild child (as the vet now like to call Bella)

As rough as my run was this morning and as exhausted as I am and wanted to quit and turn around... I pushed through... so I am dedicating the rest of this post as a motivational day.... hope you enjoy

Taking it for Granted....

Whew.... running last week without the four legged running partner really kicked my tail. I ran a lot faster and harder without her but I felt very accomplished.... so fast forward to this week....

I decided that Bella was strong enough that I could kick it into high gear with her too! So we did and what a difference it makes... she did awesome and was happy prancing the entire time. I have been running with her while she has her shock collar on and carrying the remote.... never thought I would have to resort to a shock collar but with this little white lightening of a pup I have... I had to.

I have been teaching her that when we are running and we come across another dog on a walk or run (mostly only see people walking their dogs though... they may be smarter than me to some degree)... we step off the path, she sits and stays sitting while the other dog and owner pass. This has been a work in progress but yesterday she amazed me (and I didn't even have to zap her!) We stepped off the trail as this little furball had a Napoleon complex and was barking it's head off at Miss Bella. She calmly sat right beside me and waited for the obnoxious fellow to pass on by... much to my amazement and the furball's owner! Then we continued on our running way.

We ran through the streets of the Village of Pinehurst, past all the older homes and the great Carolina Hotel. For those of you who live in Moore County, NC... we really take our town for granted. There are people that travel to this sleepy little town from all over the world to shop at the boutiques and golf on the best courses there are to offer. Running through the historic district just maybe realize I am truly blessed to be living in such a beautiful place. Sometimes we just need to take a break or a run to full gain that appreciation again.

So this weekend, no matter where you live... stop for a moment and take in your surroundings... be thankful for what you do have and let's forget about the bad and the doubt... even for just a few short moments. Life passes us by so quickly and there is so much that we take for granted.

My shadow's the only one that runs beside me...

It has been a whole month since I posted.... oops sorry!

My little running partner is out of commission as she was spayed this past week so I run alone.

I ran alone yesterday for the first time in a very long time and realized how much I miss my four legged companion even if she is yanking my arm out of the socket at every squirrel!

It did give me some time to reflect on yesterdays events though... I am glad that we have found Osama... I won't rejoice in the death of the another human being but glad he is no longer weighing on our minds. His death will not cease terroism.... there will be another person that tries to step in and follow in his footsteps. Nor will it bring back all the Americans and others that have died at his hands.

I think what angers me the most is that Obama is getting such praise for all of this. Yes, he did use our MILITARY'S intelligence and go ahead and set the operation in motion. An American service member, who Obama just a few weeks ago was debating on whether or not to PAY, did. Obama just happened to be the one in office when our soldiers finally found OBL and took him out. This is NOT an Obama victory, but an AMERICAN victory!!

These are the thoughts that roamed around in my head yesterday that I thought I would share. Now back to running! I have several small races coming up all leading up to The Warrior Dash (if you don't know what it is look it up) in August and then a half marathon in November. To prepare myself for the Warrior Dash I have also starting mixing in P90 workouts into my running schedules. I need to build that upper body strength!

This isn't a very exciting post... but just a little insight on where my training is going. I promise to write more often!
